More About Level II


Level II: Advanced Technical Accident Investigation (Technician level)

This course is a step up from At Scene Investigation (Level I) in course length, (Two weeks), and commitment from each student.

ATAI consists of the following topics:

• Diagramming of critical scenes
• Linear Perimeter Measurement System
• Crush damage analysis
• Vehicle Dynamics
• Occupant Kinematics
• Time/Distance relationships
• Advanced airborne equations
• Conservation of Linear Momentum
• Auto/Pedestrian collision analysis
• System Failures

This course is designed for the police officer or engineer that is consistently handling critical collisions and the analysis of those collisions. There is substantial course work and projects to reinforce instruction.  Students should be well versed in handheld calculator usage.

A mandatory pre-requisite for this class is a first level course from an accredited source, (AIRS, Northwestern, IPTM…etc.) A comprehensive exam will be given at the close of each week on those topics studied during that time period.

ATAI is a pre-requisite for Traffic Accident Reconstruction, Level III.
